CK Healthy Tailgate

We closed out last week with a “Healthy Tailgate Cookout” sponsored by our CK Wellness team. The weather was absolutely amazing and so were the games, food, and fellowship.  Everyone enjoyed some “healthy” competition with cornhole, foursquare, and ladder golf.  We gave away awards for Mr & Miss Spirited (most decked out in their favorite team-wear).  Mandy demolished the other ladies with her Atlanta Falcons stuff and jersey.  She even brought a huge blowup Falcons football player as a prop.  David won for the guys by sporting Falcons, Hawks and Braves wear.

CK Core Values Video

Late last week we released our first official video which gives everyone a glimpse into what makes CablesAndKits different (and awesome).  We were super excited to finally get this video out to all of you and share our heart and craziness on a whole other level.  We hope that you will take a moment to watch the video and that you enjoy seeing the passion of not only the business, but the people that make up CablesAndKits. You can view the video and landing page here, as well.

Customer Request

I admit we get some of the strangest requests for drawings on our boxes from customers.  This one is of Kevin, one of our equipment conditioners, and his “Kitten Liberation Army” – go figure… Be sure to

Ok, now that we are all singing “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang in our heads…

If not, this will help!

Instead of doing the normal Awesome Week In Review this week, I have decided to take a slightly different route and share a monumental occasion here at CK and let you in on the fun a little bit. (Don’t worry there will still be pictures…and videos!)

Here at CablesAndKits one thing you will notice is that we work hard and we play hard. One of the core values of the business is “Balance Life & Enjoy the Journey”. Not only do we take the business side of things very seriously, like finding the best price on equipment, taking care of the customers, taking care of our employees, and the list can go on and on; but we take celebrating seriously too! VERY seriously! Last month, was the best month in the history of the company on several levels. It was awesome to see the team as a whole pull together to strive to hit the common goal of shattering records all over the place. In celebration of this historic moment, we took some time away from the office and went to Dave & Busters to have a little fun, a little food, and a little bowling. To say that the day was a blast is a huge understatement. It was great being able to hangout with the whole CK team while kicking back and relaxing. The day consisted of

It was a warm, spring day. Not unlike any other spring day in Atlanta, GA. The sun was shining, the breeze felt warm, and of course there was pollen everywhere. Just your regular day in Georgia.

Then something happened…the weather turned from bright and sunny to overcast and chilly. Now, truth be told, this too is not unlike any regular Georgian day. As they say, “If you ever get tired of the weather in Georgia, just wait a minute.” But this wasn’t your typical turn-on-a-dime change in weather. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but something was amiss.

Then I heard it. A loud sound. It wasn’t a boom. It wasn’t a bam. It was more like an elongated “fizzle and a sizzle”. The closest thing I can think of is the sound Dr. Frankenstein’s laboratory makes right when he pulls the switch and all those electrodes start flicking.

Comic Pod

I ran into the warehouse and saw the same thing the rest of the gang saw. There in the middle of aisle 23, between the rack of our Cisco 2950 routers and the HP L306 power cables was a pod. A tall, shiny pod. A tall shiny GLOWING pod. With one red button. (Now I’ve seen my fair share of funny things in our warehouse, but never anything like this!)

As we all stood around it, we waited to see who would be the first to approach it.

We stood for a long time.

A really long time.

I think we all kinda felt like we were in an episode of Star Trek, and nobody wanted to be the red shirt guy. (you know what we mean…) Finally our fearless leader Craig, being the role model he is (or maybe it was because it was delaying shipping orders for so long),  walked up to the box.

Craigs Bday

This week we celebrated a few very awesome birthdays around the office – both Craig & Christin (our Owners) and mine! (I will let you figure out whose was the most important. I will not get into that debate.) Above is the end result of the fun we had trashing…errr…,I mean decorating with love, Craig’s office. There were even racks of inventory that showed up in his office…yes, that is the randomness of this place! It is never a dull moment around here when it comes to celebrating birthdays and partying.

Well, sometimes the celebrations are not as enjoyable for us.  Especially when we have team members moving on to their next stage in life.  This week we had two team members depart from CK – Kyle, from our Sales Account Management team, and Jonathan from our Shipping team.  Kyle is moving off to Florida to hang out with Mickey Mouse and play on the beaches. Jonathan is going back to school full time. Here are a few pics of their send offs:

We wish both of them the best of luck.  And as always

CK Beard Off 2013

Well, we wrapped up our little CK Beard Off this week at the office.  A few weeks back we posted the starting pictures in our AWIR blog. It was a close battle, but at the end of the day Geoff  ended up taking the top prize! (a.k.a. he got to keep his beard!) The “Best Looking” beard went to Brian  (bottom pic).  Those of us with lighter colored hair did not fair well at all (pity party = over). At the end of the day we all felt the wrath of Geoff and his win, including Brian. From top to bottom, Jeremy ended up with just a plain ol’ creep mustache. Jason ended up with an “honest Abe” beard (We felt like he got off the easiest). Next up is me, I got the Fu Manchu mustache.  Then there was Brian…he got the big mutton chops.  Fun was had by all, and our faces are all returning to normal now. (Thank goodness!)

CK Beard Off
It’s an old fashion beard off around the CK office. Awesome, right? Yes, this may be an attempt by some of the guys around here to exert their manliness, but it is all in good fun, right? Facial hair is always a topic of discussion and held in high regards around the office, even to the point to where Geoff and Brian from our Product Management department cried a bit when they shaved their beards off for the contest. The contest will last two weeks and prizes will be awarded to the longest beard and the best looking. The clean-shavin’ crew above are the ones participating this time around – from top-left – Me, Jason S., Brian, Jeremy, and Geoff (center). Trust me when I say it has been a true competition, even to the point of where Brian and Geoff were researching vitamins to take to help their beards grow faster. Be on the lookout for a blog soon with the winners and pics of the losers and their new beards afterwards.

This week we added another Shipping Expert into the craziness of the CK office and warehouse. But wait… there is more to this normal looking (yeah, I know that is a stretch!) guy. He has a secret identity! (Actually two of

Ok, I will admit it, I am a bit of a geek when it comes to gaming.  Now, I might not be as hardcore as some people, but I still spend more time than I probably should playing my PS3. Right now my obsessions are Injustice, The Walking Dead, and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12. But enough about me, on to the topic at hand…

A couple of months back the epic battle of the ages began between the Sony Corporation and Microsoft with the official release of pre-orders for the new PS4 and Xbox One. Which both of these left the Wii curled up in the fetal position in the corner sucking it’s thumb. It was humorous to watch the rabid fans of each unit “dis” the intelligence of the other one. For the sake of keeping the balance of the multitudes, I will not state my personal opinion on which one is better, even though I am a tried and true PlayStation fan and believe that they have the best system out there, but that’s besides the point.  I will remain completely out of the argument…for now… (well, maybe)

The debate has seemed to heat up again as pre-orders continue to roll in more and more for each console.  The rest of us lonely souls, who do not want to pre-order, will have to wait for the ambiguous “holiday season” to get ours.  (Which the unofficial PS4 release date of November 13th was supposedly leaked out.) In the meantime, lets breakdown some of the major specs, besides the nifty new designs, on each of the units and then I will let you make up your mind. One of the biggest differences was the sharing capabilities – PS4 allows game sharing, Xbox One originally did not plan to. On June 19,2013, at the E3 Conference, Microsoft announced that it would be reversing its “always online” and game sharing restriction. Before this decision PlayStation released this great ad to assist those who did not understand the PS4′s stance on game sharing and to poke fun at the new Xbox:

Now this is not an all inclusive list, but a

Baby Caroline Collage

Two weeks ago today was a VERY special day for us in the CK family!  Our Founders, Craig and Christin, celebrated the birth of their little baby girl, Caroline!  This week we are able to publicly celebrate with them!  Little Caroline came into the world 7 weeks early (born at 33 weeks, 2 days), weighing in at 2lbs, 15oz and 14 3/4 in.  Baby, mom and dad are doing wonderful and adjusting to their new life adventure very well!  We join with Craig and Christin in praising God for this miracle and look forward to watching her grow up around the craziness of the CK office! (We know, the pictures are so cute, right?)

Leslie Collage

This week we said goodbye to Leslie, one of our expert Broker reps.  A few of us around the office honored her with a “Runaway .5k Race” (Yes, a .5k!) and a homemade, potluck barbecue lunch.  Leslie is an avid runner so we thought it would be a fitting way to say goodbye to her and wish her luck on her new adventure.  It was a day filled with

What are the differences between Cat5E, Cat6 and Cat6A Cables?

While a Cat5E Ethernet Cable is currently sufficient for most needs, it is predicted that Cat6 and Cat6A will take over in the future. Cat6 cables simply offer better performance.

Cat5E gives an available bandwidth of up to 350MHz, whereas Cat6 almost doubles that – with an available bandwidth of up to 550MHz. Cat6 is designed specifically for Gigabit Ethernet specifications. While most systems are not capable of running such speeds, many organizations are choosing to prepare for future needs by going with Cat6 cables.

Cat6 can run much faster speeds than Cat5E, and Cat6A only improves upon those abilities. Cat6 also benefits from improved insertion loss, return loss and several other improvements over the older Cat5E design.

Cat5E, Cat6 and Cat6A Ethernet Cables can all run about 300 feet reliably.
